GOVERNOR OF ASSAM : KEY HIGHLIGHTS

The Governor of Assam is a nominal head and representative of the President of India in the state of Assam. The governor is appointed by the president for a term of five years. The current governor is Jagdish Mukhi. Prof Jagdish Mukhi is the 30th Governor of Assam and he assumed his office on 10th October 2017.Prior to his appointment as the Governor of Assam, Shri Mukhi was the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Assam has had 10 Governors of British origin The first Governor of Assam was Sir Robert Neil Reid. He was appointed Governor of Assam on March 4 1937. Sir Akbar Hydari became the first Governor of Indian and was also the last British appointed Governor of Assam. Since 1937, Assam has had 39 Governors.

- Frederick Chalmers Bourne, 4 April 1946–?, (acting for Clow)

- Henry Foley Knight, 4 September 1946 – 23 December 1946, (acting for Clow)
